da esoccer bet: According to The Sun, Arsenal manager Unai Emery wants to push Carl Jenkinson through the exit door at the Emirates.
It’s news that could interest West Brom, who were looking pursue the player in January, per The Mirror.
What’s the word?
Remarkably, Jenkinson is now 27 and he’s still yet to truly realise his potential. The boyhood Arsenal fan has been with the Gunners since 2011 but has often found himself out on loan.
At one point this season, it looked as though the full-back was about to revive his Arsenal career but has struggled to really cement a place despite Hector Bellerin being out injured.
As a result, he could now be about to leave with Emery attempting to force him out of the club, according to a report in The Sun.
Back in the January transfer window, West Brom were looking at the possibility of bringing Jenkinson to the Hawthorns but a move never materialised.
Transfermarkt claims that the player’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season so he will be available on a free transfer.
West Brom should revive interest
Although Jenkinson struggled during a loan spell in the Championship with Birmingham, he’s shown positive strides in the limited game time he’s got at Arsenal in 2018/19.
He’s performed admirably and stood out in particular against Bournemouth when he made a rare Premier League start back in February.
In those games, he played as a right wing-back, which demonstrates that he’d be perfect for the system Jimmy Shan has used at the Hawthorns this term.
Utilising a 3-5-2 with wing-backs, he’d able to slot in should the current caretaker manager be given the reins on a full-time basis after the season ends.
With Mason Holgate’s loan deal coming to an end and Allan Nyom a far from convincing option, then it wouldn’t be surprising if Albion were in the market for a right-back this summer.
Renewing interest in Jenkinson, therefore, makes sense and would be a shrewd investment if they decided to come back in for the player.
