da bet7: Reports in the British press have stated that Tottenham are holding additional talks with key playmaker Luka Modric to try to urge the midfielder to sign an improved contract with the club.
With the January transfer window approaching, The Daily Mail have stated that Harry Redknapp’s men will do everything in their power to tie the Croatia international down to a new contract, amid interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.
The diminutive midfielder asked to leave White Hart Lane last summer, with Stamford Bridge his chosen destination, and Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy turned down four bids from Andre Villas Boas’ side for Modric.
With the likes of Chelsea sure to offer Modric higher wages than he is currently earning, a new £100,000-a-week contract has been offered by Tottenham to increase his salary, which has been on the table since September.
Despite Tottenham’s excellent domestic form this term that sees the North London club up in third place, Modric is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, and his employers are bracing themselves for more transfer bids come the new year.
Meanwhile, out-of-favour winger Steven Pienaar has been linked with a January loan move back to former club Everton.
The South Africa international has found first team opportunities at White Hart Lane a commodity since joining from The Toffees, and may return to Goodison Park on a temporary basis.
