da supremo: Tottenham missed the chance to close the gap on the Premier League top two after Scott Sinclair’s goal Swansea rescued a late point at the Liberty Stadium.
da pinnacle: Harry Redknapp’s side could have moved to within four points of the two Manchester clubs and looked on course to do just that after Rafael Van Der Vaart scored just before half time to put them on course for victory. However the Swans had different ideas as Sinclair popped up six minutes from time to put a five point buffer between themselves and the bottom three. Brendan Rodgers will have been peering cautiously over his shoulder during December as his side slipped closer to the drop zone but will have been encouraged by their performance against title chasing Spurs. They became the ninth team to visit South Wales and fail to walk away with a win with only Manchester United the only side to beat Swansea at home.
For long periods it looked as if Tottenham would join the Red Devil’s in achieving such a feat although for much of the game they were second best as the hosts restricted them to half chances and pot shots from distance. Scott Parker’s injury in the first half took a substantial amount of fix out of Spurs’ midfield although Gareth Bale and Benoit Assou-Ekotto were lively giving young full back Jazz Richards a torrid afternoon. It was from the left that the visitors goal originated from with Assou-Ekotto beating Richards before seeing his cut back find it’s way to Van Der Vaart who acrobatically volleyed past Michael Vorm with the ball taking a nick off Ashley Williams on it’s way in.
Vorm was called into action more frequently after the break and saved well with his legs from Younes Kaboul’s strike at the near post following a charging run. Van Der Vaart then had the chance to seal the points for Spurs but found his Dutch counterpart in inspired form seeing Vorm tip his 25-yard strike round the post after being played through by Emmanuel Adebayor. The Swans had moments of their own with Stephen Dobbie seeing his goal bound effort cleared off the line by Kyle Walker before Sinclair pounced to restore parity in the 84th minute. Last season’s top scorer pounced on a rare mistake from Brad Friedel to snatch a vital point and cause his manager to charge down the touchline in celebration.
