da luck： Saints legend Matt Le Tissier believes the club’s priority this summer is persuading manager Ronald Koeman to sign a new deal, according to reports from Mirror Football.
da brdice： Southampton finished 7th during Koeman’s first season at the helm, and are currently in line to yet again challenge for a Europa League qualification spot this season.
The Dutchman has raised doubts as to his future at St. Marys’ after revealing he would like to return to manage his former club Barcelona.
Le Tissier however, sees securing the former Ajax manager’s services for the coming years are vital to the club’s progression.
“To get our manager secured to a new contract would be a massive boost for the club,” he told the Mirror.
“If we could get Ronald on another two or three year contract that would be a really good starting point to kick us forward again because he is an outstanding manager.”
The Sky Sport’s pundit also stated the importance of keeping hold of the club’s key players this summer, having seen an exodus including the likes of Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren in the summer Koeman joined the club.
“We also have to keep hold of our players. In the last couple of summers we’ve lost good players. It’s always going to be tough to keep replacing them.
“I did think it was going to be a tough gig for him considering what he was coming in to and the players we had lost. We’d lost a lot of quality footballers.”
Southampton again saw players leave the club for pastures new in the previous summer transfer window with Toby Alderweireld leaving for Spurs, Nathaniel Clyne for Liverpool and Morgan Schneiderlin for Manchester United.
Whilst fans thought the side may struggle with once more losing its main men, the acquisition of the likes of Virgil Van Dijk and Jordy Clasie have made for a smooth transition and another impressive season under the Dutchman.
“[Keeping Koeman] is the most important thing. Hopefully, we’ll get that sorted and something will be announced shortly,” Le Tissier added.
