After arriving at the City Ground in January, the former Middlesbrough boss has his first opportunity to reboot the Reds for the upcoming campaign.
Tomlin spent the second half of last season on loan at Forest, where he made 15 Championship appearances, scoring four goals and creating three assists.

The forward nabbed five goals in total during the 2017-18 campaign as he fought for a place in the team at parent club Cardiff City.
Now, according to the Nottingham Post, Karanka would like to sign Tomlin on a permanent deal but after Cardiff’s promotion to the Premier League, the 29-year-old automatically received a pay rise.
The publication suggests that a loan deal is the only likely option available.
Should Forest continue to pursue?
This deal – whether it ends up permanent or not – suits both the club and the player.
Karanka is very familiar with Tomlin having coached the attacker during the pair’s time together at Middlesbrough.
In the 2014-15 season under Karanka’s guidance, the hitman scored 10 goals and created 11 assists for Boro.
Tomlin’s experience in the second tier, as well as his goalscoring ability can only benefit Forest.
It is also a positive move from the player’s point of view as he is unlikely to secure regular game time in the Premier League at Cardiff this season.
