Leeds United reporters Phil Hay and Graham Smyth have been reacting to Gaetano Berardi’s move to FC Sion.
The Lowdown: Berardi’s new home
The former Whites hero, who can play anywhere across the back four, left Elland Road at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
He made 157 appearances for the club, with the Whites keeping the Swiss defender at the club despite suffering a serious ACL tear during Leeds’ promotion run-in.
Berardi made two Premier League appearances last season and has now penned a deal until the end of the season with Swiss side FC Sion.
The Latest: Hay and Smyth reacts
In what was a quiet deadline day at Elland Road, Leeds correspondents Hay and Smyth took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Berardi’s move.
Hay labelled it as ‘nice to see’, whereas Smyth said ‘go on Berardi’.
The Verdict: Brilliant
Berardi established himself as a Leeds legend during his time with supporters, and it’s good to see he now has a new club after returning to Thorp Arch in December to see his former teammates.
The 33-year-old should be an asset to the Swiss side due to his versatility and experience gained during his seven-year stay with the Whites.
Hopefully, the defender can impress in the second half of the season back in his native country, which may earn him a long-term deal beyond the summer.
