da casino: England defender Phil Jones has stated that there is no reason that his nation cannot go all the way next year at Euro 2012, and feels the squad have not been affected by the scandal surrounding John Terry.
The Manchester United man has been included in Fabio Capello’s squad to take on Spain and Sweden in upcoming friendlies, and is hopeful of his side’s chances at the tournament in Poland and Ukraine.
“I don’t see why we can’t surprise a few people next summer,” he told reporters ahead of the clash against Spain.
“We have a great squad, with a great mentality. I am sure we can go there with a great chance of getting to the final stages, if not going all the way.
“A lot of the teams have got better and stronger as the years have gone by. But we are still a fantastic team. We have great quality in our side and are able to compete with the best. It’s nice to test yourself against the best but we know what we’re about we have a good mix of experience and young players,” he stated.
John Terry has been included in the international set-up despite allegations of racism, and Jones does not feel the controversy has upset the side’s preparations.
“I don’t know what goes through his mind. I look after myself and how I prepare for this game but I’ll be pretty sure he’ll be as professional as any footballer in preparing for this game.
“It is not a talking point I have been aware of. It’s business as usual,” he concluded.
