Nottingham Forest fans have taken to Twitter in disbelief after it was revealed that club-legend, Martin O’Neill, is set to be appointed as their new manager after Aitor Karanka was relieved of his duties last week, as reported by The Telegraph’s John Percy.
The Irishman played for Forest for a decade between 1971 and 1981, making 264 league appearances for the club. At 66 years of age, O’Neill will be thrust straight back into management having left his post as manager of the Republic of Ireland’s national team back in November.
Karanka departed the City Ground with Forest sat in seventh place in the Championship, but they have since slipped to ninth.
The move from the club’s board was against the wishes of supporters, who were quite fond of the Spanish boss, and the news of O’Neill’s imminent appointment has annoyed a fanbase who were full of hope for the season.
