Leeds United’s decision to not sign Club Brugge winger Noa Lang in the summer transfer window has been explained by reliable journalist Phil Hay.
The Lowdown: Lang linked with Leeds move
The Whites ended up buying Daniel James from Manchester United late in the transfer window, alleviating their lack of depth out wide in the process.
Leeds were linked with signing numerous players in that area before his arrival, with Lang one of those tipped to make a move to Elland Road.
The 22-year-old has scored 19 goals and registered 15 assists in 44 appearances for Brugge, catching the eye with his trickery and end product.

The Latest: Hay provides key update
Providing an update for The Athletic, however, Hay confirmed that Leeds opted not to sign Lang because there were ‘concerns’ surrounding the winger’s ‘defensive capabilities.’
James is expected to thrive in that aspect of his game, as well as going forward.

The Verdict: Wise move by Whites?
In order to succeed in a Marcelo Bielsa side, a strong work ethic is required off the ball, with relentless pressing all part of his style.
The fact that Lang is seemingly lacking in that area means Leeds were right not to sign him, with the hard-working James looking more suited, in that respect.
While the Welshman has proved to be far less prolific than Lang – just nine goals in 74 Old Trafford matches – sometimes it is about more than just sheer ability, and talent is only half of the gig when working under Bielsa.
