Palmer blew away the European champions in a first half as good as any we have seen from him this season. His two goals were almost carbon copies, as he caressed the ball into the bottom corner twice from the edge of the box before sliding through Joao Pedro for a third. Fans have taken to social media to heap praise on Palmer for his continued ability to deliver the goods in finals.

Fans expressed their disbelief at Palmer's first-half display. One fan on X, @PremLeaguePanel, said: "Euro 2024 final. Now Club World Cup final x2. Cole Palmer has this finish on absolute lock. You can’t stop it."
Another, @SS____899, also said on X: "Palmer in big games might be a top 10 player of all time."
A third, @SxrgioSZN, added: "Palmer in finals is too crazy man… he could go 99% of the season without a goal or assist but he’ll still be there in a final."
While @flameosumeet said: "Bro how does Palmer always score goals like that where he rolls it in, it’s like in slow-motion but no one can stop it."
@NotPaneen added: "Palmer I just don’t know how to describe you anymore."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The Blues held out in the second half to get their hands on the Club World Cup trophy and became the first winners of the new-look competition, largely thanks to Palmer. Luis Enrique's PSG had a difficult task on their hands as they looked to get back into the game in the second half, a task which proved too difficult as Chelsea defended strongly and could have added further goals at the other end.

The 23-year-old could not quite manage to net a famous hat-trick in a major final but was easily the stand-out player on the pitch. If this is the Palmer which will be beginning the 2025-26 season at Stamford Bridge, the whole Premier League should be quaking in their boots.
