da cassino: It was not enough that David Moyes dragged his Manchester United side out of the top four, but he also helped to push out some of their best players.
da winzada777: Some of the players Manchester United lost prior to this seasons included the defensive forces of Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand. To lose one would have been hard enough, but all three? Devastating.
Has this affected Manchester United? Of course it has. You just have to look at the changes to their back line, and how many there were, to see that.
The tinkering of a McNair-Smalling partnership, then a Smalling-Rojo combination, then Daley Blind dropping into a left back role: it was hard to keep up. This is down to injuries as well, obviously.
Out of the departing three, only one can say he has had a good season – Patrice Evra. The Frenchman is as good as ever, and his side Juventus have stormed to Serie A title this term. Patrice will also be playing in the Champions League final against Barcelona in June.
Rio Ferdinand’s lack of appearances have clearly been down to the unfortunate personal situations he has faced this season. Nemanja Vidic may have been able to bag a goal for Inter Milan early on in the season, but with his side currently sitting in eighth place, has he really bettered himself? There has been talk of a potential return to Old Trafford for Nemanja Vidic, but it is unclear just how much truth there is in it.
The only benefit of these players moving on to pastures new is the opportunities it has given to the younger players Old Trafford. Do you think Paddy McNair would have been given a look in this season if Vidic had been available? Out with the old and in with the new can be a tough adjustment, and is has been, but it makes room for new talents.
A less structured back line has also shown the worth of goalkeeper David De Gea. He has been praised heavily this season, which has been down to the fact his defensive line has been somewhat makeshift.
But had United’s back four been as solid as it has been in the past, would De Gea’s form attracted the interest it’s getting from all corners of the globe? Probably not.
Either way, though, Louis Van Gaal’s side have eventually overcome that initial transitional period at the beginning of the campaign to secure a top four finish.
