da 888casino: As reported by The Daily Mail, Celtic are closing on a big-money deal to bring Charly Musonda to Glasgow from Chelsea this summer.
What’s the story?
da bet sport: Celtic have been selective in the talent they’ve brought to the club already this summer with just Jonny Hayes and Kundai Benyu making the switch to the club.
It very much seems to be a strategy of quality not quantity and Brendan Rodgers seems to have a very clear idea of the targets he wants to arrive at Celtic Park.
The Hoops boss admitted on Saturday that the club were closing in on a major signing and when asked more about the deal, opened up about the work done to get it to this stage.
As quoted by The Daily Mail, Rodgers said:
It’s been a period of six months. Celtic have been great in trying to make it happen and if we can close the deal out, it will be a high level of quality. It’s good money that will be spent on the player who is of a substantial pedigree and quality. He is young but he is a big talent and he has experience.
So who is the mystery player? Well The Daily Mail seem certain the player in question is Chelsea youngster Charly Musonda, who would be a very exciting acquisition for Celtic fans.
Who is he?
Musonda is a Belgian U21 international who appears to have a bright future in the game. He’s been at Stamford Bridge since the age of 16, joining from Anderlecht in his homeland.
He spent 2016 on loan at La Liga side Real Betis, on either side of the summer, making 24 appearances for the Spanish side. Upon his return in January of this year, Conte decided against loaning him out but he has yet to make his debut for the Blues.
An attacking midfielder, currently valued at £4.25m according to Transfermarkt, he could be a potential replacement for Patrick Roberts who left Celtic at the end of his loan deal this summer. Roberts created more assists than anyone at the club last term and the Hoops need to replace that output with a quality addition and Musonda can play centrally or on the wing.
Part of the Chelsea side that won the UEFA Youth League in 2015, starting in the final, he’s regarded as one of the brightest players currently coming through the system at Stamford Bridge. Celtic completing the reported deal could be considered as a bit of a coup.
Representing Belgium at five age groups and gaining 12 caps at U21 level, it’s a fair bet he’ll be a future Belgian international too.
If Brendan Rodgers can harness his talent and get the best out of him then more first team football could do the player the world of good, especially if he gets minutes and experience in the UEFA Champions League.
